Open Laser-Galvanometer Motion Controller (1): ZMC408SCAN Interface & Function

Hi, everyone, in these days, except"Motion Control Quick Start" series, there is one new series information ofZmotion technical support for you, that is, "Open Laser-Galvanometer Motion Controller"

There are 5 parts on laser galvanometer motion controller. And today it is the first part to share "ZMC408SCAN Interface and Function" with you.

Let's begin.



01
ZMC408SCAN Controller Function

ZMC408SCAN is an open-type laser galvanometer motion controller that supports EtherCAT bus launched by Zmotion Technology. It is specially designed for the application of industrial laser + galvanometer + motion control . And through interfaces of EtherCAT bus and pulse-axis pulse, multi-axis motion control can be realized.

The controller ZMC408SCAN contains various types of laser interfaces, and there are 8 high-speed outputs that support PWM function and PSO (position synchronization output) function to achieve synchronous control between motion and laser of high-precision and multi-axis.

ZMC408SCAN internally integrates the independent motion controller for laser control, galvanometer control and bus axis/pulse axis control. The controller itself supports 4 pulse-axis control and 2 XY galvanometer-axis interfaces (with galvanometer feedback), and it supports complex continuous trajectory control requirements for up to 16 motion axes, also the hybrid interpolation of galvanometer axis + pulse axis + bus axis can be achieved.

In addition, there are powerful functions and rich interfaces of ZMC408SCAN, including linear interpolation, continuous interpolation, arbitrary circular interpolation, space arc, helical interpolation, electronic cam, electronic gear, position latch, synchronous follow, virtual axis setting, hardware comparison output, hardware timer, precision output during motion, etc., therefore, it can meet the needs of various occasions. And real-time motion control can be achieved through optimized network communication protocol.

The above form shows some basic parameters, for more, please go to ZDevelop, enter "?*max". Also, instruction parameter value and communication channel can be viewed through sending "?*set" and "?*port".

As we mentioned, ZMC408SCAN controller contains 8 high-speed outputs that support PSO function, which means it can trigger the laser in a high-speed at the same time when in motion process, the response speed can be accurate to the microsecond level, and the laser energy can be controlled to act evenly on the workpiece.

ZMC408SCAN Controller Interface

Then, let's explain them one by one.


RS232: it is the 232 serial port, using MODBUS_RTU protocol, there is only one RS232.

RS485: it is the 485 serial port, using MODBUS_RTU protocol, there is only one RS485.

CAN: it is the CAN bus interface to connect to CAN expansion module or controller, there is only one CAN bus.

ETHERNET: it is the net port, using MODBUS_TCP protocol. it can expand the number of net ports through interchanger. and it contains 2 net channels at least, the default IP address is 192.168.0.11, there is only one ETHERNET interface.

EtherCAT: it is the EtherCAT bus interface to connect to EtherCAT bus drive and expansion module, there is only one EtherCAT bus interface.

E+24V: it is the main power to supply 24V DC power for controller, there is only one E+24V interface.

UDISK: it is the U disk interface to insert U disk equipment, there is only one UDISK interface.

IN: it is the digital input interface, NPN type, there are 24 inputs, they are supplied by internal 24V, input 0-3 have the latch function.

OUT:  it is the digital output interface, NPN type, there are 12 inputs, they are supplied by internal 24V, output 0-7 have PWM function, precision output function and PSO function.

AD: it is the analog input interface, 0-10V, the resolution is 12-bit, there are AD interfaces.

DA: it is the analog output interface, 0-10V, the resolution is 12-bit, there are DA interfaces.

Axis: it is the pulse axis interface, each interface includes differential pulse output and differential encoder input, there are 4 Axis interfaces.

SCAN: it is the galvanometer interface, using XY2-100 protocol, there are 2 SCAN interfaces, and they are with feedback.

LASER: it is the laser control interface, there is only one LASER interface, but supports several kinds of powers, such as, IPG, YLR, YLS.

MPG: it is the handwheel interface for 5-24V handwheel signal, there is only one MPG interface.

EXIO: it is the expansion IO interface, other types of laser power control interfaces can be extended, SPI, FIBER and YGA. and adapter board can be customized flexibly. there is only one EXIO interface.


PC can be connected to controller through serial port and net port, then send instruction to controller for processing. Both RS232, RS485 and network port can be used to communicate with external equipment. For expansion IO module, using EtherCAT or CAN bus interface to connect.

SCAN and LASER are standard laser galvanometer interface and laser power control interface.

And EXIO expansion interface is provided by ZMC408SCAN for expanding external equipment flexibly. In addition, it can be configured as the adapter for digital IO interface or other lasers.

ZMC408SCAN Controller Program Development

There are two ways to develop application program of controller.

(1) ZDevelop

ZDevelop is our old friends, it is researched and developed by Zmotion independently. Then, the application program can be developed using it, and the program developed by ZDevelop supports downloading to the controller for offline operation. The control program can be completed through the Basic language of ZDevelop, and the development of the touch screen interface can be completed by the HMI language. At the same time, it has a variety of view windows to facilitate development and parameter check.

(2) Upper-computer

Except, VC, VB, VS, C++Builder, C# and other host computer software can be used to develop. The dynamic library zmotion.dll is required when the host computer program is running. Also, when the host computer is developed and debugged, the ZDevelop software can be connected to the controller for auxiliary debugging.
